Research matters!
I was honoured to be asked to share my story with Against Breast Cancer. Against Breast Cancer is based in the UK and funds pioneering research into new treatments, tools for earlier diagnosis and advice to reduce the risk of recurrence and secondary spread. Working with expert scientists they want to increase the survival rates of all breast cancer patients and ultimately, discover a vaccine against breast cancer.
What a fantastic goal! As someone fighting an ongoing battle, to know that this level of devotion and determination is out there is such a relief and a great source of comfort. More and more women are being diagnosed with this horrendous illness and the sad truth is that more and more women are being diagnosed earlier. I met with a Breast Care Nurse here in Switzerland recently, who told me that one of her latest patients was just 18 years old. That is almost impossible to comprehend. This young woman has only just reached adulthood and has been forced out of the carefree world of a teenager and into the deepest darkest depths of adulthood in the most abrupt and terrifying fashion. More needs to be done in order to prevent this illness, not just to manage it and I can only applaud Against Breast Cancer for their amazing efforts.
